Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist or a healthcare professional. You can read about our personal experience with a plant-based diet, but please know that your experience may be different from ours. You should do your own research before making any changes to your diet or lifestyle especially if you have a health condition.

I receive emails from readers on a weekly basis asking me whether a whole food, plant-based diet can help with [insert health condition here]. I’ve received questions about everything from irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulitis to obesity and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

And even though I’m not a medical doctor (and thus can’t give personalized medical advice), my job here is to educate you and arm you with the resources you need to be your own health advocate. That’s why today I’m sharing a list of my very favorite plant-based nutrition websites. These are the ones I personally visit any time I have a pressing health question or concern.

Because let’s be real.

Any time our health is on the line, we need access to evidence-based scientific research that can actually help us get better.

Why It’s Important to Be Choosy About The Resources You Trust

These websites are run by prominent plant-based doctors and experts who have access to all the latest medical journals. But more than that, these professionals have firsthand experience treating myriad health conditions with a whole food, plant-based diet.

Notice that the list is quite small.

That’s because I have very high standards for my own healthcare and won’t trust just any old Joe who claims to be an expert. Rather than create a long list of so-so resources, I wanted to share the best of the best so you know you’re getting quality information any time you have a serious health question.

So if you’d like the inside scoop on the top plant-based nutrition websites, then keep reading to see which ones I personally trust.

If you aren’t sure where to begin with your whole food, plant-based diet, then this step-by-step guide will help.

1. NutritionFacts.org

NutritionFacts.org is a website run by Dr. Michael Greger. You might know him as the author of the popular plant-based books How Not to Die and How Not to Diet.

He loves dissecting the latest in scientific and medical research, so you can be sure the information on his website is quality stuff.

Any time I have a health question, I start with this website because there’s a good chance Dr. Greger has an article covering that topic. The sheer amount of information on his website is astounding!

Be warned though: articles on this website can get pretty deep, especially if you aren’t overly interested in the nuances of science.

2. PCRM.org

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine website is run by Dr. Neal Barnard and his team of plant-based doctors and experts. There’s a lot of good information about both plant-based nutrition and specific health topics. You can also find plant-based recipes here!

PCRM.org is usually the second website I visit after NutritionFacts.org when I’m searching for information about a specific health concern or nutrition question. Often, the articles are a little easier to understand and absorb.

3. NutritionStudies.org

The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies website features informative articles written by various plant-based doctors and health experts. You can find information on topics such as nutrition, disease, fitness, environmental issues, and more. You can even find a plethora of recipes and cooking tips here!

4. DrMcDougall.com

I’m fairly new to Dr. McDougall’s website, but it’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

You can browse through a list of common health problems to find answers to your health questions, and you can also view prior editions of Dr. McDougall’s newsletters where he explores hot topics in depth. Very informative!

You can also search for recipes and find lists of compliant prepackaged foods that you can buy at the grocery store.

5. ForksOverKnives.com

The Forks Over Knives website is especially good for finding plant-based recipes, but you can also find some inspiring success stories that may speak to your specific health concern.

These success stories are often written by people just like you and me who were able to overcome some pretty serious health conditions. They are both inspiring and informative, especially if you’re looking for someone to say “Hey, I’ve been where you are and was able to get through it.”

How to Search for Your Specific Health Question on Plant-Based Nutrition Websites

Any time you visit one of these plant-based nutrition websites, you can spend hours and hours browsing all sorts of interesting research. I certainly have!

But let’s say you have a specific health question you want answered. Do you know how to easily find that information?

There are a couple ways you can search for a specific health topic.

Navigation Menu

The first is by using the navigation menu at the top of the website. There is usually a category for health topics, and if you click (or tap) the drop-down menu, you can see a list of popular medical topics to choose from. If your question falls under one of these headings (like “diabetes,” for example) then you can simply click that link to learn more about the subject.

Search Function

But if you don’t see the category you’re looking for in the main menu, you can use another method to find specific articles related to your question: the search function! All of the websites listed here have a search function that lets you type in a key word or phrase to see if there are any articles on the website related to your search.

Look for a search bar, a menu item titled “search,” or an icon of a magnifying glass. When you find one of these, type in a search term (like “PCOS” or “ulcerative colitis”) and hit enter. If there are any articles on the website related to your search, they’ll show up in the search results.

Often, using the search function is faster than browsing the menu if you’re looking for a specific or obscure topic.
